It is almost 8 years since I last stepped into Hong Kong. The last visit was a on-the-way visit - a working trip dated back to 2010. This time, I was there with mum, and we were 100% as tourist! Hong Kong is not a 'new' place to me, but it's always close to me, probably because of the relatives staying there and more uniquely, the common language that we speak - Cantonese! This time, it's also a mother-daughter bonding trip! In this trip, we went to places that I had not explored much in the past. In fact, it's a very MTR-intensive trip - we got to all the places by MTR! There's always something new to learn about this place each time I come :)

Lantau Island 大屿山: Tai O 大奥

Tai O is known as a fishing village that 'manufactures' dried and preserved seafood, in particular, salted fish and dried prawn paste - that created the characteristic smell of the place.

The streets are filled with stores that sell similar stuff....

Try doing a literal translation of these dried seafood: Local Big Land Fish, Local Big Mouth Fish... hahahaha...

Can you recognise what's that large grey object that's hanging upside down?

Some were still selling their goodies at its market in the early afternoon

Looked a bit chaotic, but that's how it looked like - probably there's order in chaos?

There are the famous stilt houses.
Indeed, the locals called the place Venice in Hong Kong, where there were boat rides to bring tourists around the place through the waterways, and all the way to the sea to 'catch' pink dolphins.

How to get there?
Indeed, we used Ngong Ping as the connecting point. We took the local bus at its terminal, with a journey no longer than 20 minutes. There are people around to guide tourists, anyway. Hence, it's very convenient and (I would say) hard to get lost.
